Some Spanish countryside in the Guadix to Alquife area.

Spain, Teruel and another overnight stop.

Teruel and its amazing architecture

and statues

and stunning bridges

and art nouveau pieces

and plazas to relax, dine or just have a cafe con leche

and that is after another nights stay on the road, with breakfast outside, reading the paper and looking at the blossom on the trees immediately behind us. This is the third petrol station in which we have stayed overnight and the quality and standard of the rooms and the facilities have been superb in all of them, and all good value for the traveller.

Spain and Alquife

A tribute statue to the miners of the now closed iron ore mine in Alquife

The wonderful palm trees are a prolific sight in Spain

A night scene in quiet Alquife

Olive groves are abundant in this area and of course the whole of Spain

Abandoned and derelict white houses are numerous in this old mining town.

but regeneration is in hand following the potential re-opening of the iron ore mine.

Spain - The Journey Down From Santander To Albox

View from our hotel balcony in Santander

and our view on the second night - the cowsheds; it may seem strange but sitting watching the cows after driving, sailing, driving and travelling nonstop for 5 days, was in some way rather relaxing.

Our favorite petrol station on leaving Santander, it is just off the motorway and set in a tranquil  and rural valley and is reminiscent of Austria. The mountains and fir trees surround the station and the occasional sound of cow bells adds to the flavour. We seem to hit this station on the way down and on the way back and we have to make the most of the stop with coffee and a bite to eat.

One of the hotel bedrooms on our journey down. Beautifully presented and spotlessly clean.

Part of the lorry park at dawn outside our bedroom window, after another long day on the road.
